Alkmaar

Alkmaar is only 10 kilometres from Bergen aan Zee. It is world famous for its cheese market, which is a real tourist attraction on Fridays in summer. But you can also walk along the canals and explore the old town with its small streets and beautiful shops.

Hoorn en Enkhuizen

Just one hour from Bergen Aan Zee you will find the old harbour towns of Hoorn and Enkhuizen, situated on the former Zuiderzee, with historic buildings, fishing harbours and marinas. These towns are also well worth a visit to Bergen Aan Zee!

Haarlem en Amsterdam

Do you want to visit a city? From Bergen Aan Zee you can reach the centre of Haarlem or Amsterdam. A canal or harbour tour, or the world-famous museums such as the Imperial Museum, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam or the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem are impressively beautiful.

Polders

The polder landscape begins shortly after Alkmaar, where windmills were built many centuries ago. Here you will also find a large area for cycling, hiking or sailing on the Alkmaarder Sea. The area of the West Frisian Omringdijk is very popular, but also a day with a ‘whisper’ (electric) boat in the landscape conservation area Eilandspolder will remain in your memory for a long time.

Horse riding in the area

Do you want to go horseback riding on the beach? Horseback riding in and around Bergen aan Zee is organised by Manege Poelenburgh.
